Being engaged means it’s time to prepare for marriage. Don’t get engaged if you’re not ready to commit to the relationship for life. Marriage is supposed to be a lifetime commitment. Granted, these days many don’t take it seriously, but this needs to change.

Many times people feel like they’re being pulled or pushed into something they’re not ready for. If you do not feel absolutely 100% sure don’t get engaged or married.

If it’s the right time and person you will feel joy and not fear. It should be a time of celebration with you running around telling everyone. If you’re trying to hide it then something is wrong and it could mean serious problems down the road.

Even if the family doesn’t approve of them let it be known anyway. If you can’t stand up for your fiance now then what’s going to happen after you marry? Think on that a while!

That’s right, let them know that you love the person and intend to marry no what they think or say. Maybe then they will come to their senses and share in your happiness. Then again, they may not, so be prepared either way to follow through and stand ground.

Being engaged also means no more time alone with the opposite sex other than your fiance. We all have opposite sex friends and that’s okay, but it’s not a good thing to spend time alone with them anymore once engaged.

Your focus needs to be on the relationship with your fiance. This way you will be able to make them feel like they’re the priority, which they should be.

Naturally, this goes for both it cannot be one sided. If you feel that that it is one sided then you need to discuss it and if it can’t be resolved then you need to consider counseling. If they’re not willing to do this then it may be best to move on.

Don’t let being engaged stop you from moving on. After all, it’s better than getting married and going through a divorce! When you’re engaged you’re still free to go.

No matter what you feel consider the facts and weigh everything carefully. Remember feelings can be deceiving and marriage is a life changing decision.
